Awakening (server mods)

From Wurm Unlimited
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page will list most of the individual modifications made for the Awakening server. There is also an Awakening Client Mod.

The Awakening server actually only has one server mod, all mods are merged into one single package, and no external mods have been installed - except for Ago's mod loader and server packs. The reason for this is to prevent possible code clashes between mods, and because it is a concept server with the aim of being very close to vanilla Wurm Unlimited and yet add custom content. A public version of this mod has been released, containing selected parts of the code.

Minor Modifications

Community Managers (CM)

Awakening doesn't make use of GMs, except for installing mods and fixing bugs or creating GM content. Instead we have community managers (CM), who act as server staff. CMs have authority to punish players who doesn't follow server rules, but their main task is to help players and manage the community. They are also chat moderators. CMs also have a few extra commands at their disposal.

Help

The /help command has been updated to list all custom commands, as well as common commands, in alphabetical order. This also applies for the #help command used by staff.

Player Settings

Player settings is accessed by right clicking Body, either in the character window or the inventory window (there is a client setting for adding body to the inventory window). In the Body-menu select Settings. Here you can opt in/out from various features such as leaderboards, character sheets, and combat statistics, as well as muting chat channels and hiding the beams at the great towers. Mayors also have some deed settings.

Character Sheet

The character sheet is used for role playing, for information about your character to other players. It is accessed from the Body-menu (see player settings). Players can fill in information about the character background and personality. It's also possible to select a spouse, but then the other player must be online at the same time and will be set a spouse request, and if accepted both will connect with each others. To view other players' character sheets, either select Character in the menu when right clicking the player's 3D model, or use the command /character [player name] (the player must be online at the time).

Economy

The economy window is accessed from the Body-menu (see player settings). It lists statistics for your economy such as income and paid taxes. The statistics are only based on trades made with merchants and vendors. For more info, read the page about the Awakening economy.

Combat

The combat window is accessed from the Body-menu (see player settings). Here is listed combat statistics, such as creatures killed, and also about infestations. War points is a score gained from PvP action.

Karma

Karma is generally gained from burying corpses. The reason is that the spirit of the creature rewards the player for showing it respect. Followers and adepts of deities the doesn't permit burying corpses gain karma from killing creatures.

Farming

Farm tiles within deed borders only grow to the next stage if tended. Untended tiles remain in the same stage indefinitely, or until the deed disbands. Tiles can therefore rot if tended after ripe. THere are two main reasons for this change, one: that players are meant to be able to take breaks from Wurm without having all crops lost, and two: farm tiles can be used for decorating deeds. Deed mayors have the option to disable this feature, in player settings. Farm growth ticks have a fixed time, at 00:00 GMT, and are therefore always 24 hours.

Pets

Pets are by default passive, and won't attack aggressive creatures. This makes it safe to keep pets travelling in the wilderness. Pets can however be commanded to attack aggressive creatures, which is done with the attack pet command, this will switch the pet into attack mode and it will continue attacking aggressive creatures until told to clear all commands. Note that you can't issue commands to pets during combat, because it counts as actions and actions are stacked until after combat is finished - so make sure to command your pet to attack before going into combat.

Nobility Titles

Nobility titles are accessible to mayors, who are appointed the title as feudal lord of their domain. The size of the domain, i.e. deed, decides the rank of the title. When a mayor increase the size of the deed, new ranks may be given. The following titles can be achieved: Lord/Lady, Baronet/Baronetess, baron/Baroness, Viscount/Viscountess, Count/Countess, Marquess/Marchioness, Duke/Duchess, Grand Duke/Grand Duchess, Archduke/Archduchess. Nobility ranks cannot be lost, even if the character is no longer mayor of a deed or if the size of the deed is decreased. The only use of the nobility titles is for role playing purposes.

Military Titles

Military ranks are achieved by gaining war points. The following ranks can be achieved: Corporal, Seargeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, Brigadier, General. Military ranks are lost when the amount of war points no longer match.

War Points

War points (WP) are gained from participating in PvP action, by killing enemies. Killing tower guards and village guards also increase the amount of WP, by a fixed amount of 5 - 15 WP depending on the level of the guard, and is split between the number of killers. Killing other players withthe same or higher rank however will gain a percentage of the enemy player's WP, while the enemy will lose 50% of the same amount of WP, so getting killed can cost ranks. Killing civilians, i.e. players with no military rank, cost WP and the higher the rank of the killer the more it will cost.

Kingdom Offices

The kingdoms of Awakening doesn't have the post as king accessible to players, which means the kingdom offices does not get appointed by the king. Instead, players apply for office positions by talking to the Royal Secretary, which is found in the capital. Only one office can be applied for per player (by Steam ID), so players with many alt characters will have to pick which alt to apply for. Offices are appointed on the Starfall of the Snake, 4th week, day of Tears at 12:00. Players have to be online at this time, otherwise a check is made every Wurm day at 12:00 to see if applicants are online to receive their offices, this continues until server restart. Appointments are announced in the System-channel and on Discord (#history channel).

Applications are placed in a queue, first in line will have a 50% chance to get the post, a coin is flipped, otherwise next in line will flip a coin, until either a successful flip or the last in line is left. All applications that have not been picked this way, are then placed in a second queue and are distributed amongst those offices that did not receive any applications, until either all applications have been positioned or all offices have new appointments. Players should make sure to apply for next year as quickly as possible, after appointments have been made; and can at any time change which office to apply for at the Royal Secretary - the queue position will be kept.

Kingdom Invitations

Two of Awakening's kingdoms are enemies to the other kingdoms, Shodroq and Thekandre, while two are in an alliance, Tirvalon and Cellimdar. For players to be able to travel to enemy kingdoms, without getting attacked by village guards or tower guards, or archery towers and turrets, they need a kingdom invitation. A kingdom invitation can be issued in two ways, one is to be invited by one of the enemy kingdom's citizens, this is done with the /vinvite [player name] (/villageinvite works too), which will create an invitation to the deed which the player issuing the invite is a mayor (or if the citizen's village role permits inviting citizens). This will invite the player to that deed in the enemy kingdom, and no village guards of that deed will attack, nor will any tower guards of that kingdom, or archery towers and turrets of that deed. The invitation will by default last for one hour, but the time can be changed with the optional parameter /vinvite [player name] [time in minutes].

Alt Characters

Players are welcome to have many alt characters, but all alts have to be of the same kingdom, on a per Steam ID basis. When an alt character is created with a different kingdom than the main character, you will get a mesage to change kingdom, and get the chance to change kingdom when logging in twice, and after that you won't be able to login again with that alt. This is to prevent players from working the economy of different kingdoms with alts.

Discord Relay

We've decided to use the Discord chat program for communicating outside of Wurm, here are made announcements and new features are listed. Some of the Wurm channels are relayed between Discord: the World channel, the kingdom channels and the Help channel. The #history channel on Discord logs things happening in the game, such as players gaining skill titles, or new players joining the server.

Skills

Leaderboards

By right clicking a skill in the skill tree, a Leaderboard option will open a popup window, listing the top ten players on the server, their rank, skill point, name and kingdom. There is no particular competition amongst players, but it's good to know who's doing good and also to know who to contact if you're in the market for a tool or weapon, or something you perhaps are unable to make and need help with. People usually are also very helpful. Some players prefer to hide their skills, then there is an option for opting out from either individual skills or all skills. There's a checkbox in the leaderboard to opt out from individual skills; and in player settings there is a checkbox for opting out from all skills - and then you can instead opt in for individual skills.

There is also a leaderboard for the top ten players on the server, which is accessed from the Body menu. It lists the players with the highest score of the average of their top ten skills.

Only active players are listed on the leaderboards, and active means having logged in within two months.

Meditation

The only modified skill on Awakening is the meditation skill, which has been changed to use the Wurm Online skill tick model instead of the Wurm Unlimited. This means, not all ticks will give skill gains, it depends on whether the meditation was successfull, and includes many factors such as QL of the rug etc. We've experienced that on a 1x1x server, using the Wurm Unlimited skill model, the meditation skill is broken, after about 30 gains are so low it's almost impossible to get a high skill value within reasonable amounts of time; the Wurm Online skill model works however and many on Awakening have reached a meditation skill above 70.

Combat Skills

Passive combat training, usually done inside a fence against a non-aggro creature while targeting another creature outside the fence, has been modified in such a way that if the target creature of the player isn't targeting the player back - then the player will target the attacking creature instead. This means that pen fighting won't work, players will start targeting the pen animals, which will die after a while. Pen fighting is in no way prohibited, this fix just evens out the unfair advantage of the people of Shodroq, who doesn't run out of stamina when standing on mycelium, and therefore can use passive training for hours. Normally, when running out of stamina, skill gains stops anyway.

Divination

Divination is a custom skill intended for something in the future. Currently the only way to gain skill is using the pendulum. Nothing more to tell at the moment.

Servants

Servants are custom NPCs which can be summoned like merchant NPCs, by buying a contract from one of the traders in the kingdom capitals. Read more about servants.

Curse Infestations

The Awakening version of Rifts, redesigned to fit the lore and for a server with a smaller population than Wurm Online. A smaller team of fighters are able to complete these curse infestations in about an hour, depending on its power and their skills and gear. Read more about Curse Infestations.

Custom Items

  • Bulk chest - A smaller container that works like a BSB, but with much less volume. It can be used as furniture, where you don't want a BSB or crate, but want to store for example kindling to light a fireplace or similar.
  • Warhammer - Using the warhammer skill and built in warhammer model. Can be crafted with weapon smithing.
  • Coffee cup - Using a custom 3D model, so requires Ago's client mod loader and server packs mod installed to show properly (otherwise looks like a bag with a question mark). A small container, for decoration and of course for drinking coffee (coffee is a custom recipe on Awakening, which requires some experimentation to figure out how to make).
  • Diplomatic passport - Used for activating a kingdom invitation for 60 minutes.
  • Servant contract - Used to summon a servant.
  • Servant task - A paper with task instructions, for giving servants various tasks to do.
  • Minor illusion - This item is the product of the spell with the same name, and is a smaller animated illusion of the creatures it represents. It can also be the models of other items, such as food.
  • Heavy conscience - An item which can be given to players as a punishment by server staff (CM), to players breaking the rules, griefing or similar. It's so heavy, the player can't move or pick up items in inventory. It can also be removed by staff, or set to automatically be removed after a certain time.
  • Holy items - There are ten custom deities, each having custom holy items.

Custom components and recipe ingredients are not listed here, and there are a number of such items as well.

Items Made Craftable or otherwise Modified

  • Garden gnome - Both the green and red garden gnomes can be crafted.
  • Masks - All Wurm masks can be crafted. Some use leatherworking, others pottery. Difficulty varies for each type of mask.
  • Shoulder pads - Two types of pads can be crafted: basic shoulder pad, stylish shoulder pad. Eventually, all are planned to be craftable.
  • Skull mug - Is made hollow and can be used as a cooking container for custom recipes.
  • Summer hat - Is craftable, and it's armour properties removed so it's just normal clothing.
  • Straw bed - The bed in the wagoners tent in WO exists as an item in WU but can't be crafted, but has been made craftable.
  • Picnic basket - This lunchbox was a christmas gift, but can't normally be accessed in WU. It's been made craftable.
  • Yule goat - Another christmas gift made craftable.
  • Soft cap - The red santa hat, made craftable.
  • Spyglass - Made craftable and can be improved.
  • Curse items - Rift items have been renamed to the corresponding "curse" name, because they are related to curse infestations instead of WO rifts. Also, harvesting curse (rift) crystals, stones and trees has been modded to yield moon metals as well as curs (rift) resources used for runes.
  • Yule tree - Renamed from christmas tree, and with alternative description, and made to not have presents.
  • Woad - Can be planted in planters like many other herbs.

Many items such as tables, planters and decorations have been made possible to paint.

Custom Recipes

There are many custom recipes available for players to discover. Which recipes these are won't be named here, to avoid spoilers. There are two ingredients however that will be described here, because it's commonly used as instruction for new players: Peanuts and Coffee beans. Both are created the same way, by combining two other ingredients - just like coconut is created by combining cocoa and hazelnut, and pineapple is created by combining pinenut and apple. Peanuts doesn't generally need any more instructions, but coffee beans will need some more information because it can't be figured out by analysing the name. Instead the experimenter need to find two ingredients that has been used traditionally as coffee substitutes during some period in time. It should also be added that these ingredients aren't necessarily associated with cooking, but they are documented as coffee substitutes so may require a bit of searching the internet. Once both peanuts and coffee beans are discovered, a number of new recipes using these ingredients will become available.

Custom Creatures

  • Shade hound - A sinister creature hunting in the shadows and running like the wind. If you find yourself being hunted by a Shade hound, make sure you have stamina and head for nearest water, because they fear water - but nothing else. Only players with very good fighting skills should try combating one of these creatures. It's a native breed in Shodroq, and are not aggressive towards Shodroq citizens, and can even be tamed by the Shodroqi.
  • Red deer - The proud and noble red deer. A larger species compared to the common deer, which behave very similar to the bison, can be lead and bread without taming. Not possible to ride, but can be hitched to carts.
  • Shade - Very rarely seen, a strange creature from Shodroq, originally humans but twisted by dark magic to become only semi-physical. Shodroq use them as spys and agents, and they are not hostile towards Shodroqi, but very aggressive towards all other kingdoms.
  • Night steed - When breeding Hell horses, if the foal is tamed when it turns into an adult, and the tamer has sufficient Animal Husbandry skill and Animal Taming skill, the foal may grow up to become a Night steed instead of a Hell horse. Night steeds act like normal horses, and are not aggressive like Hell horses and won't unhitch when growing old; however, since they have less demonic powers they are not as fast as Hell horses. Night steed offspring are normal Hell horse foals which will grow up to become normal Hell horses.
  • Dragon Queen - The Dragon Queen Qaleshin, a unique who cannor be killed and who resides on the mountain peak at Kendralon. If you climb the peak you can talk to her, she may have some things to say.
  • Dragonet - There are currently three types: black, red and green. Black and red dragonets are very dangerous, and quite rare, but not unique - can be tamed by the people of Thekandre, though with some difficulty. Green dragonets are small like a wolf and not very dangerous, and can be tamed, they are also called "swamp dragons". To know more about the dragonets in the lore, read the Awakening document.
  • Tarantula - A smaller relative to the Huge spider, with a poison bite. Make sure to bring farmer's salve when out in the wild.
  • Village guards - Instead of the spirit templars Awakening have village guards, i.e. they are not ghosts. Village guards are hired for deeds, they are usually veteran soldiers, perhaps having retired from tower guards duty. They are very skilled and dedicated to the village where they work and live.

Custom Spells

  • Consecrate - Available to all adepts, can be used for many things. Consecrate your holy item to raise the QL to the level of your faith. Consecrate flags, banners, and wagons to change appearance to that of your deity's colours. Consecrate source salt and source crystals to become sacred salt and sacred crystals (people from Shodroq consecrate into sinister salt and sinister crystals), which is used for exorcising infestations.
  • Heart Stone - This spell is available for all adepts at faith 70 and above. It shifts the location slightly outside of time, making the place unchanging. When cast on a tile - walls, fences, bridges, and some other items won't be touched by time, they freeze and won't decay, but also cannot be moved or destroyed. Use this spell only with great wisdom and consideration.
  • Invisibility - A spell available to a few adepts. It turns the caster invisible for a short time, depending on the power of the enchantment. Can't be cast when being attacked or spotted by an aggressive creatures, and any actions will break the spell, except moving.
  • Minor Illusion - Available to a few adepts. It can be used for many things: enchant a corpse to create an animated miniature illusion of the creature; a silver sheet will become a hand mirror, which creates the illusion of changing appearance permanently; a gold sheet becomes a gold mirror, which creates the illusion of changing gender permanently; source salt becomes yellow posions, which can be used for creating the illusion of being a random object or creature; food and vegetables becomes permanent illusions which never decays, which is suitable for decorating. Note that this spell costs quite a lot of karma when enchanting corpses, because it's using part of the creature's soul which will never be released to the cosmic cycle, the karma cost is then 2500. Enchanting the hand mirror cost 2000 karma, and the gold mirror cost 4000 karma, because this will twist your own soul. Yellow posions, food and other simpler illusions cost only 200 karma however.
  • Ritual of the Moons - Available for only a few adepts. Works like other rituals. When successful, except for the common effects of rituals, all follower of the deity will receive a moon metal lump in their inventory upon climing the reward (of random QL and weight).
